Knit Paintings became a thing during one of my painting courses at Brown University. We were tasked with incorporating something that is not considered fine art into our oil paintings. I had recently rediscovered my love for knitting and had my maternal grandmother reteach me this skill I had learned before I could read. My mother suggested using knitting, I jumped on the idea and launched into a new artistic process. The original knit paintings featured textiles 100% knit by me. In this piece, however, I allowed myself to incorporate found textiles along with my own knitting as well as some embroidery. This multimedia scene captures a moment of rest on my back porch years ago.
